History and current law – Medical marijuana
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
Effective December 4, 2008, the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act allowed “. . . under state law the medical use of marihuana.” Enacted by an historic vote of compassionate Michigan citizens, this law opened a new treatment option for those with chronic pain and other medical conditions.
LAW ENFORCEMENT LAGS BEHIND
While Michiganders have approved the use of medical marijuana, police departments and prosecutors still act as if medicinal use is illegal. Legislators and city politicians play to their interest groups by piling up contradictory and harassing legislation, with the goal of making access to medical marijuana practically impossible.
