To get your Michigan driver’s license restored first a hearing request must be submitted to the Secretary of State. All Hearing must be submitted in writing or through Secretary of State’s electronic system. We will submit your request for a hearing with a current substance abuse evaluation, dated not more than 3 months before the date we submit the request for a Driver’s License renewal hearing. If you do not already have a substance abuse counselor, Rudoi Law works closely with many substance abuse counselors in the area and we would be happy to refer you. The substance abuse counselor will prepare the evaluation and provide you with the completed form for your driver’s license appeal hearing. You must obtain documentation of your drinking and drug use, and sobriety in the form of notarized letters from people in your life, family and community who have frequent contact with you and would know about your use of alcohol or controlled substances. It is required that you submit at least 3 letters, but not more than six letters. These letters should be signed, notarized and dated and include the complete mailing address and daytime telephone number of the writer, and contain at least the following information about you and your sobriety.

  1. What is the person’s  relationship is to you.
  2. How long has the person known you.
  3. How often does the person see you.
  4. The person must describe their knowledge of your past and current use of alcohol and/or drugs including: how often of alcohol/dugs were used, the amount used, beverage and/or drug of choice.
  5. When was the last time the person saw or had knowledge that you had used any alcohol and/or drugs.
  6. The person must describe what they know of your past and current involvement in treatment and/or a support group.
  7.  any other information the person deems important

Once all documentation of sobriety is submitted and reviewed by the Secretary of State a hearing date will be selected for you. A petitioner for restoring their Michigan License can represent themselves or be represented by an attorney of their choosing.
